چکیده

We introduce BULLKID, a phonon detector consisting of an array dices acting as particle absorbers sensed by multiplexed Kinetic Inductance Detectors (KIDs). The are carved in thick crystalline wafer and form monolithic structure. carvings leave thin common disk intact the wafer, both holder for substrate KID lithography. prototype presented consists 64 5.4 × 5 mm3 3˝ diameter, mm silicon with 0.5 thick, hosting 60 nm patterned aluminum layer. resulting is highly segmented but avoids use dedicated holding structures each unit. Despite fact that uniformity electrical response across needs optimization, operation eight units similar features shows, on average, baseline energy resolution 26 ± 7 eV. This makes it suitable low-energy processes such direct interactions dark matter coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering.

Multiplexable Kinetic Inductance Detectors

We are starting to investigate a novel multiplexable readout method that can be applied to a large class of superconducting pair-breaking detectors. This readout method is completely different from those currently used with STJ and TES detectors, and in principle could deliver large pixel counts, high sensitivity, and Fano-limited spectral resolution. The readout is based on the fact that the k...

Position and energy-resolved particle detection using phonon-mediated microwave kinetic inductance detectors

We demonstrate position and energy-resolved phonon-mediated detection of particle interactions in a silicon substrate instrumented with an array of microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs). The relative magnitude and delay of the signal received in each sensor allows the location of the interaction to be determined with sub-mm precision. Using this position information, variations in the ...

A readout for large arrays of microwave kinetic inductance detectors.

Microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs) are superconducting detectors capable of counting single photons and measuring their energy in the UV, optical, and near-IR. MKIDs feature intrinsic frequency domain multiplexing (FDM) at microwave frequencies, allowing the construction and readout of large arrays. Due to the microwave FDM, MKIDs do not require the complex cryogenic multiplexing el...

Kinetic Inductance Detectors (KIDs) for the SAFARI Instrument on SPICA

Kinetic Inductance Detectors (KIDs) with frequency domain read-out are intrinsically very suitable to use as building blocks for very large arrays. KIDs therefore are an attractive detector option for the SAFARI instrument on SPICA, Millimetron and also for large scale ground based imaging arrays. To study the properties of large KID arrays we have fabricated 400 pixels array made from 40 nm th...
